Caribbean Cement Co. Ltd. donated $1.5 million to support Jamaica’s Private Sector Vaccine Initiative, which mobilizes collective resources to increase the rate of COVID-19 vaccinations in the country.
The company also recently donated 600 bags of cement to assist the University Hospital of the West Indies in the construction of a 40-bed field hospital to accommodate COVID-19 patients.
Health and safety represent an important pillar in the operations of Caribbean Cement and its parent company CEMEX, which prompted the donations.
“Health and safety continue to be our top priority,” said Yago Castro, managing director, Caribbean Cement. “It is our moral duty to take care of ourselves, our families and our communities. The good news is vaccines exist. They represent a good defense against the COVID-19 virus and its variants.”
The donations represent the proactive steps taken by Caribbean Cement since the outbreak of the pandemic. To date, the company has disbursed more than $11 million in support during these unprecedented times.
